What mission are you doing in this First-world country, which has everything already?
Why not go to the needier places?
People were frequently asking with the greatest curiosity.
"I must proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom of God." (Luke 4:43), replied Jesus.
And these words still resound in the lives of today's men and women who follow in the footsteps of the Lord. And our mission, as with the mission of the Catholic Church, is to propagate faith in Christ Jesus specifically through rooting deeply in his words.
The people of Singapore has been greatly blessed with economic and technological growth, political and social stability, comforts and luxuries, etc, and in this sense, they have everything the material world could offer.
Yet precisely from this contentment emerges the sharp hunger for God as the people search for more in life. |

That is why...
-
We offer a concrete way to search for God and to know him more - through his
word in the Bible (the Scriptures).
The specific means that we offer the people are through retreats and
recollections, prayer meetings, formations and activities that can introduce the
people to God?s word.
Through these means, we will guide the people to pray with the word of God so
that they too will have faith in Him and so, have fullness of life. (c.f. John 10:10)
(Activities)
As St. Ambrose said, "We listen to Him (God) when we read the Scriptures."
Forming Communities of Disciples rooted in the Word of God
As the people journey in faith in their concrete environments, we also form communities of disciples - lay people who can, in their turn, evangelise others.
Especially in this multi-religious country, people demand credible and strong witnesses of our God and His values of unconditional love, poverty, freedom, hope, peace, fraternity, etc, to convince them of His existence, of His Love and faithful companionship.
The disciples of Christ, called to be the "salt and light" of Singapore
(C.f. Matthew 5:13-14), need regular and constant prayer and formation in which they can deepen and assimilate the word of God so as to be better equipped to ?give answer to anyone who asks (you) to explain the hope you have? (1 Peter 3:15).
"With the whole Church I pray to the Lord to send many more committed labourers to reap the harvest which I see as ready and plentiful." (C.f. Matthew 9:37-38).
At this moment, I call to mind what I wrote in Redemptoris Missio: "God is opening before the Church the horizons of a humanity more fully prepared for the sowing of the Gospel".
This vision of a new and promising horizon I see being fulfilled in Asia, where Jesus was born and where Christianity began.
